Located in the heart of Garfield Park on the south side of downtown Indianapolis, the Garfield Park Arts Center (GPAC) occupies a renovated pool house and shelter. For years, the entrance was simple and non-descript concrete, leaving visitors confused about where they needed to go to enter the building. In 2009, a sea creature themed mural was painted to help brighten the corridor. After 8 years of exposure to the elements, it was decided that the mural needed to be refreshed. The mural was designed to incorporate the colorful GPAC logo (also designed by Kris May) as well as beloved features within the park – the Sunken Gardens and Conservatory, the Pagoda Shelter, and the beautiful rolling landscape and large trees.
